I have a tiny room for my scrap space. I originally had a bigger room in our house, and when I bought my furniture it all worked really well. About three months after being in that room, we decided it would be better for another purpose, so we moved my stuff to this tiny room. I struggle with it because the furniture is way to huge for the room, but I think I've finally found a happy balance. My room isn't "decorated" or "pretty", but it is functional for how I scrap. I stand up when I scrap. I need to be up and over whatever I'm working on. For some reason, when I sit, I get everything crooked or wrong. I don't mind crooked, when it's on purpose, but I do when it's not. So, I needed a table I could stand at and a computer area I could sit at. I'm right-handed, so I wanted everything within reach on the right when I scrap. If you've read my organizational post from a while ago, then you'll notice I've changed my approach. I've been taking Get Organized, Be Inspired from Big Picture Scrapbooking and it's really helped me understand how I need things to be organized and stored in order to be productive and inspired. I took apart my color bins. They took up so much space and ended up being a dumping ground for products, which made me dread going through them when I needed something. I brought my old 12 drawer Iris cart back into my room. It had been sitting in the garage collecting dust, but it's back and I'm so happy with it. I went through all of my bins and purged. I'm learning that I need to have only those things that inspire me in my space. I shouldn't bring things in unless they make me want to create and I definitely shouldn't keep things that don't "sing" to me creatively. So, I spent Saturday purging. I still have my system. I have my bigger stuff in page protectors with the three rings and I have my embellishments and ribbons in bead boxes. My flowers are all in zip locks. So, that hasn't changed. What has changed is having them all together in one bin. I now have my page protectors and embellishment box in a drawer in my Iris cart. I have my ribbon boxes and my flowers in my closet. Those two items, I don't use as often, so it made sense to have the stuff I always search for nearby and the rest not so nearby. My cart is on wheels, so I can just wheel it over to my side when I'm scrapping and then wheel it back against the wall when I'm done. My wall above my desk that used to have all the totes, now has 4 totes. I have a multicolor bin, a projects bin (like cones, trims, stockings - things I want to do for the holidays), a holidays bin (everything holiday theme that is not paper), and a mini book bin. The rest of the wall serves as a display for my favorite layouts, which I'll change out whenever I want. My magazines and cardstock are still in my desk. The biggest thing I did, was to take the doors off my closet. This gives me full access without any hassle and serves as my right hand access. I have all of my paints, glues, glitters, paper, photos, incomplete albums, etc in there. I'm really loving the newly re-done space. It feels so much more functional and I feel so much more inspired.
Here is the view when you walk into the room. It's my computer desk. I have a McKenzie Thrope above my computer. He's my all time favorite artist. One day, I hope to afford an original. <sigh>
My computer desk and chair are from Target. I do not recommend the Coastline desk set. It's not very well made. I couldn't afford the real deal from Pottery Barn, and in this case, I definitely got what I paid for. I have the corner desk set and the straight desk set. The chair, I love. The hutch on top of the left side of my desk and the calendar/white board is all from Pottery Barn (it looks like the hutch I linked you to, has been revamped from my version). I love them, too.
